Anna Hicks

Cyclist - Mountain & Road

Anna is a relatively new cyclist, racing on and off road and finding some early success in the sport. Prior to cycling, Anna had a brief running career landing her on the Division 1 team at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo where she then discovered a talent and love for cycling. Specifically Anna identified an aspect of joy, play, and challenge, that was unique to mountain biking and something that was missing in her prior athletic pursuits. Since beginning racing in 2021, she now competes at the Elite level with the goal of rising to the top of the sport in the coming years. In 2022, Anna stood on 3 podiums at the Collegiate Road National Championship, most notably coming in 2nd in the Road Race, took 5th at Tahoe Trail Moutain Bike race, qualifying for Leadville 100, and won a handful of local road races earning her, her Cat 2 upgrade. In November, Anna won the El Tour de Tucson, which she attended as part of a USA Cycling Collegiate Talent ID Camp.

In 2023, Anna will compete in XC mountain bike races, gravel, and road races with the hopes of making a splash in the elite racing scene. Her favorite Fluid product is the Spiced Vanilla Protein. She uses it almost daily mixed into oatmeal or almond milk, she notices a huge difference in how her body feels after using this blend compared to basic protein powders.

Gordon’s story of endurance sports is one of overcoming personal health challenges. After running 3 marathons in 2012, he was diagnosed with partial complex seizures in 2013. Accomplishments from 2021: 2nd place overall at Fawn Lake Half-Marathon, qualified for and ran the Boston Marathon, placed in my age group in 3 races, and recovered from a stress fracture.
Goals for 2022:

ULTRARUNNER

I'm a recent graduate of Cal Poly in Civil Engineering and am working towards becoming a licensed Civil Engineer. I grew up around Ultrarunning as my family roots dig deep in the sport. I completed my first ultra when I was maybe 7 years old, competing in a 24-hour race and doing just enough to eclipse the coveted marathon mark. Since, I haven’t stopped – completed numerous ultras, including 10+ 100-milers. 2021 was a great return to racing highlighted with my 4th finish at the Leadville Trail 100, and my completion of the Moab 240 Endurance Run. I recently discovered Fluid and used it as my sole electrolyte replacement drink during Moab. I sipped on it constantly for just over 4 days and had zero stomach issues! I’m excited for my growing calendar of races in 2022, and can’t wait to toe the line again!

Accomplishments from 2021: Moab 240 Endurance Run and my 4th Leadville Trail 100 Run finish.
Goals for 2022: Run all 365 days of 2022, finish the Leadville Trail 100 Run for the 5th time, and do at least 1 other 100-miler.
Favorite Fluid flavor: Cinnamon Vanilla Recovery

ULTRARUNNER

I live in Southern California. I’m best known for accomplishments in Ultra running. But as long as I’m in the mountains, I’m happy. I love technical, high altitude trails, I find peace and grounding there. I have 42+ Ultras under my belt, 7 of them 100 Milers; Angeles Crest, Chimera, Zion, Ouray and Tahoe, to name a few. 6 in top 10 female category.

Accomplishments from 2021: My 2021 accomplishments were to stay healthy. But, I really enjoyed pacing my friend, Luke Ullett, to finish his first 100 miler. We ran through the night at Big Bear Kodiak and finished strong. The accomplishment that I am most proud of didn’t come from running but did require commitment and dedication. I purchased my own home.
Goals for 2022: January was the annual Mt Wilson, “Make it a Double” event. A challenge to run 28 miles with 10,000 feet of elevation gain. You can do as much or as little as you’d like. Also, tentatively the Mt. Mitchell 40 miler in North Carolina and an unofficial Backbone 69 in March. In May, I’ll cross Grand Canyon with a back-to-back rim to rim. Also aiming to qualify for NYC Marathon. In July I'm working in Europe... I’ll find some trails while I’m there. When I get back, I'll fast pack in the Sierras North to South lake, and summit Mt. Russell, a 14er in CA.
Favorite Fluid flavor: Cinnamon Vanilla Recovery makes me want to EARN my recovery. I can’t wait to chug it down after a day of being beat up on a mountain run.
A song that fires you up: My favorite victory song is This Girl is On Fire! by Alicia Keys. “She’s got both feet on the ground and she’s burning it down...” You know the rest.

ULTRA RUNNING

2023 Goals: I wanted to complete Hurt100 last weekend but shortly after my 32 mile I experienced a minor leg injury that I did my best to get through until mile 40. My new goal is to complete a 50 mile qualifying race so I can enter the lottery to see if I get an opportunity to try again in 2024. Outside of racing, I will be coordinating trail work days from a distance for Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo trails affected by recent rainstorms. I will also continue to volunteer at events both cycling and running.

Favorite Part about Being a Fluid Athlete: The vegan protein and recovery line that caters to my desire to not use whey or soy. I also love the Citrus Punch Tactical ORS that I got to try for the first time last weekend, it was great in the heat. I also love the all around support that Fluid has also given me!

I am a lover of movement in the mountains, among other landscapes of course but mountains are what beckon to me the loudest. Over the past couple years my athletic focus has been on trail racing and mountain FKTs (Fastest Known Times) alike. I’ve racked up a number of FKTs in my home mountain range, the Cascades, and have won a few ultra trail races as well. In 2022, one of the biggest races I competed in was the Puerto Vallarta 100k by UTMB where I placed 2nd and earned a spot to compete in the CCC 100k in France this year, one of my biggest goals of the coming season. The real through line of all these endeavors has been Fluid. Fluid’s Performance drink mix, both the Passion Fruit Tea and Fresh Citrus flavors, have fueled me through each and every outing and the Cinnamon Vanilla Recovery helps me feel fresh day after day. I found Fluid three years ago now and it has been a game changer for my ability to fuel, hydrate, and recover ever since.

When I am not out running or doodling my way around landscapes, I run a business building tiny homes and van conversions called Roost Works in the teeny town of Trout Lake, Washington.

ULTRARUNNING

I run trail ultramarathons and have been a Fluid loyalist since its inception.  In 2019, I won the Bear 100 miler and set course records for the Kodiak 50 miler and the Zion 100k, and was fueled by Fluid Blueberry Pomegranate from start to finish! My favorite race to date was running on local trails in the San Gabriel Mountains outside of Los Angeles, finishing second in my debut 100-miler at the Angeles Crest 100.

TRIATHLON

I live and work as an engineer in Central California, and have been hooked on triathlons since 2015. Triathlon allows athletes to compete to their limits, yet is one of the most encouraging and genuine communities that I've been a part of. It taught me to value my competitors and the athletic journey over the need to win, and has helped me grow so much as an athlete and person. I just love the pain, the people, and all the experiences that come with it! I plan on someday being the oldest finisher of a full Ironman.

2023 Goals: Got big life goals for 2023, most importantly spending a few months in Europe to line out my family's future home. So my athletic goals are few but mighty: Morro Bay 70.3 - crush it with a smile on my face; AG Draft legal world champs - podium individually and on the mixed team relay; complete my USAT coaching license and help my athletes chase their dreams.
Favorite Part about Being a Fluid Athlete Being a Fluid athlete means being part of a team that strives to help people succeed. I know that they have my back when I'm on the race course, sitting at my desk, or off exploring. They value people as more than just athletes and are a company that are easy to endorse. It brings me a lot of joy to be able to share them with the people around me.

CYCLING / PARATRIATHLON / ADAPTIVE CLIMBING

I was an elite cyclist and triathlete who had the honor of representing Team USA at the ITU World Championships. But a car-on-bike crash cost me part of my right hand and my dreams of going pro. Due to my unusual injury and amputation level, I've had to develop my own adaptive devices so I could return to swimming, biking, and running safely and without pain at the level I was accustomed to.

Goals for 2023: Complete a gravel fondo as a para athlete (and build an adaptive device that will allow me to do so!), summit at least 3 new 14ers, and teach roller derby!
Favorite Part about being a Fluid Athlete:
Being able to support and share an honest company and product that has supported me throughout my long athletic career!

An Inspirational Quote:

"Increase your capacity for joy!" Don't know the origin of the quote but it was shared with me by my running guru years ago and has inspired me ever since!

MOUNTAIN BIKE/FAT BIKE/SPARTAN

Dave lives in Cadillac, Michigan and has been racing mountain bikes at events around the state since 2006. With the popularity of fat bikes, groomed trails, and our far share of snow, he took up fat bike riding/racing in 2015. He also enjoys the challenge of and competing in Spartan races.

In 2022 I made the jump to racing gravel bikes and less mountain bike races.

My highlights of 2022 would be finishing 3rd in the Cow Pie Classic Gravel Race, racing the Coast 2 Coast gravel road race, and just exploring the endless miles of gravel roads in Michigan!!
Goals for 2023: Racing in the Michigan Gravel Road Race Series, and competing in the Marji Gesick mountain bike race, which is known as the “the hardest single day mountain bike race in the Midwest!”

ULTRA TRAIL RUNNER

2023 Goals: My goal for this year to reach my potential at the 100 mile distance. I'm starting the year with some faster races (Avalon 50, Ventura Marathon & the Leona Divide 50k) and then I'll be running three 100 mile races (San Diego 100, Angeles Crest 100 & the Javelina 100). I've run five 100 mile races but haven't really nailed one yet, hopefully 2023 will be that year!
Favorite Part of being a Fluid Athlete: I love the family atmosphere of team FLUID and the FLUID products are amazing! I use the FLUID Protein (Chocolate & Vanilla), Performance (Fresh Citrus & Blueberry Pomegranate) and Recovery (Mint Chocolate & Chocolate) all the time.
Valuable Lesson Learned: The most important thing I've learned from running long races is patience. It doesn't come naturally to me but I've learned to hold back for the first half of races so I can finish hard while others are slowing down.

CYCLOCROSS/XC MOUNTAIN BIKE

Carl and Kristal Boni live in Colorado just outside of Boulder. They both have raced all disciplines of bikes over the last 15+ years with a primary focus on cyclocross and mountain biking, and have been huge Fluid fans pretty much the whole time! Their son and daughter race all disciplines and are Fluid fans as well!

Carl
Goals for 2022: To get back to racing! 2021 brought shoulder surgery and a foot injury that limited me to just one race. For 2022, I'll get getting back to the local mountain bike series in Winter Park, plus Iron Horse and hopefully MTB nationals. This is our 10th year working with Fluid and it is a huge part of our process for before, during, and after training and races.

ROAD CYCLIST/MOUNTAIN BIKER

Accomplishments from 2021: Keeping a regular training rhythm throughout the year, and attending the Collegiate Triathlon Nationals in September which was hosted as part of the Malibu Triathlon. While an injury set me back from the performance I was expecting, I also competed in the first iteration of 70.3 Salem, and look forward to racing more at the half-iron distance after graduation this spring.
Goals for 2022: To stay healthy and consistent in training throughout the unpredictable race season that we are facing in Collegiate Triathlon. I have been struggling with an injury since last summer, but hope to get that taken care of and represent Cal Poly Triathlon at Nationals this year in Lake Lanier, Georgia. In addition to getting back into consistent running, I want to try and enter an open water swim race this year! I have swam since I was 8 years old, but have still never competed in one of these events and would love the opportunity.
Favorite Fluid flavor: Hands down Blueberry Pomegranate for Performance and Cinnamon Vanilla for Recovery.
